Position Summary

The Director of Technology for the UA Little Rock College of Education and Health Professions reports to the Dean of the College and is primarily responsible for overseeing all college technical systems, data systems, and college applications in addition to their administration. This position is responsible for the technical guidance and documentation of policies, procedures, and standards set forth by the university and the college. This position is responsible for providing direct technology oversight and leadership to the college, departments, and additional ventures. This position assists the financial director(s) with technical procurement and planning. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary advisor to the dean(s), director(s)/chair(s)/unit head(s), faculty, and staff of the academic departments;

  • Represent the leadership’s goals, intents, and expectations to external entities when authorized and instructed;

  • Primary advisor for technical hardware/software/equipment purchases;

  • Provide comprehensive reporting and communication of college/university infrastructure (health, scalability, technical issues, etc…);

  • Identify and promotes opportunities for faculty and program development in IT-related areas;

  • Work with designated vendors to troubleshoot and/or replace faulty equipment;

  • Provide faculty, staff, and administration with support for enterprise systems and emerging technologies;

  • Provide written reports and updates in addition to regular touch-base meetings to administration, faculty, and staff for outstanding requests or issues;

  • Perform comprehensive security checks on all systems and maintains logs related to these assessments; provides recommendations and data to dean(s) for urgent and critical decisions;

  • Collaborate and act as a liaison with UA Little Rock IT Services to plan future efforts, ensuring quality control and coordinating services and development/implementation of new services and systems offered or supported by the university;

  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communications;

  • Command of various operating systems and languages to include: Windows 2008 Server, SQL Server, Linux Server, Windows 7, Mac OS X, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS and CMS (preferably WordPress or JQuery);

  • Experience in troubleshooting server hardware, workstation hardware, printers and Smartboards;

  • Experience in grant writing is helpful;

  • Information technology management experience; experience planning and implementing technology inclusive of audio/visual systems.

Required Education and/or Experience

A bachelors degree in education, information technology, computer science, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in technical troubleshooting, assisting, and training; three (3) years of experience administering servers in a small to medium sized server environments.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

A master’s degree in a related field; Experience working in higher education environment; experience working with technology allocation and technology budgets.
